QL+ to Host Second Annual Veterans Day BBQ

Event will bring together civic dignitaries, military and business leaders and scores of local residents to honor our nation’s heroes

MCLEAN, VIRGINIA: Quality of Life Plus (QL+) will host its 2nd annual Veterans Day BBQ on Sunday, November 7, 2010, from 2:00pm to 6:00pm at the Pavilions of Turkey Run, Colonial Farm Road, McLean, Va. More than 150 people are expected to attend this family-oriented event, including Former Governor of Virginia, George Allen, Delegates Mark Keam (D–35th) and Barbara Comstock (R–34th), Virginia House of Delegates; John Foust, Supervisor of Fairfax County Board; and, Mark Sopp, CFO and Executive Vice President, SAIC.

All proceeds from the event will help fund projects at the QL+ Laboratory at California Polytechnic State University (Cal Poly) in San Luis Obispo, where teams of students and faculty work together in multidisciplinary teams to research and develop prostheses and other innovative assistive devices to benefit those injured in the line of duty. Cal Poly faculty member, Dr. Tom Mase, and graduate biomedical engineering student, Nick Butler, will discuss successful QL+ Projects. Founder and Chairman, Jon Monett, and Executive Director, Scott Monett, will provide presentations on the QL+ Program’s vision and mission.

The official sponsor of the event is Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC). Additional local and national corporations and individuals also supported the event through sponsorships and in-kind donations.

“I can’t think of a better way to honor our nation’s heroes around Veterans Day than to pay tribute to their service and sacrifice at this community event,” said Scott Monett, Executive Director of the Quality of Life Plus (QL+). “This community event brings together many notables from around the region, as well as local residents and families.”
